Watch trains live from Berea, Ohio — one of the classic Midwest railfan locations just outside Cleveland. Berea is known for steady railroad action day and night, with Norfolk Southern and CSX traffic passing through one of Northeast Ohio’s most famous train-watching spots. Berea has long been a favorite railfan destination because two major railroad routes run close together through town. The area around the historic Berea Union Depot and BE Tower became well known during the Conrail years, when Berea was part of the busy “Conrail X,” linking traffic from Chicago, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Cleveland, and points beyond. Today, the location remains a busy railroad hotspot with Norfolk Southern’s Chicago Line and CSX’s Cleveland-area mainline traffic moving through the area.

BE Tower still stands as a reminder of Berea’s railroad history and the days when interlocking towers controlled the movement of trains through key junctions. For generations of railfans, Berea has been one of those places where you can sit back, watch the signals, listen for horns, and enjoy a steady parade of freight trains.

Live from the historic Boyce Railway Depot at Norfolk Southern milepost H-46.1. This former Shenandoah Valley Railroad and Norfolk & Western route connects the Hagerstown area with Front Royal and Roanoke. Approximately 20 or more Norfolk Southern freight trains pass through Boyce each day, although traffic varies.

Rail service reached Boyce around 1880. The present depot was completed in 1913 after local residents helped fund a larger station. Today, the restored depot is preserved by the Boyce Railway Depot Foundation and houses the Railway Mail Service Library.

Watch trains live from Northwood, Ohio at Vickers Crossing — one of the Toledo area’s classic railfan hotspots. This location is known for heavy freight action, mainline meets, and the kind of steady railroad traffic that makes Northwest Ohio a favorite place for train watching. Vickers Crossing has been a well-known railfan location for generations. Historically, this was where the New York Central’s busy Chicago–Buffalo mainline crossed the Toledo Terminal Railroad. In the classic era, the NYC route through here was a major four-track east-west artery carrying passenger and freight traffic between the Great Lakes, Chicago, Cleveland, Buffalo, and the Northeast.
The Toledo Terminal Railroad was built as a belt line around Toledo, helping connect the many railroads that served the city’s industries, docks, yards, and interchange points. Its loop around the city made Toledo an important railroad hub, giving carriers a way to move traffic around the city and reach connecting lines without everything having to pass directly through downtown.

Durand is famous for its beautiful historic depot, Durand Union Station, now home to the Michigan Railroad History Museum. The depot has long been a centerpiece of Michigan railroad history, sitting near the busy railroad diamond where Grand Trunk Western and Ann Arbor Railroad history came together. Virtual Railfan’s LIVE train cameras in Deshler, Ohio, are located at Deshler Crossroads Park, capturing the iconic diamond where CSX’s Toledo Subdivision (north-south, single-track, connecting Cincinnati to Detroit via Toledo) intersects with the double-track Garrett Subdivision (west, to Chicago) and Willard Subdivision (east, to Baltimore via Pittsburgh). This historic Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) crossroads sees upwards of 50 daily CSX freight trains, including intermodal and manifest traffic.

The cameras, hosted by Deshler Crossroads Park in the southwest quadrant of the diamond, offer views of the former interlocking control tower (northeast quadrant, now a CSX maintenance-of-way office) and the former passenger station (northwest quadrant). The park itself sits where the freight express station once stood before its demolition. With no Amtrak service, the cameras focus on the vibrant freight action at this busy rail hub.
